The study investigated National health insurance scheme and the economic wellbeing of the Nigerian populace, Comparative study from 2000 to 2018. The study made use of secondary data which were collected from CBN Statistical Bulletin Annual Report, Federal bureau of statistics. Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model (ARDL) multiple regression analysis was also adopted to verify the level of significance at constant or trend of the variables and ARDL Bounds Test in establishing the long run equilibrium relationship. Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) unit root test was conducted on each of the sets of data used in the analysis. The Johansen Cointegration was also used to identify cointegrating relationship in the model. The t-test Result at 0.05 level of significance was adopted in making a decision on the hypotheses formulated. The result revealed that Government health expenditures and National Health insurance scheme had significant effects on the economic wellbeing of the Nigerian populace via GDP as there existed a long run relationship between Government health expenditures, National Health insurance scheme and economic wellbeing of the Nigerian populace. The researcher suggested that there should be more government spending on the health sector and that compulsory enrolment into the National health insurance scheme should be enforced for all working Nigerians starting; with those working in government organizations in order to improve our dismal health indices as most Nigerians will then have access to better healthcare services without the encumbrance of large out of pocket expenses hence, increasing her consumption in other goods and services.
